THE CONTINENTAL CICLOBRAVA OF SEA OTTER EUROPE COSTA BRAVA GIRONA RETURNS FOR ITS FIFTH EDITION22-09-2021
Sea Otter Europe’s cycle tour returns with three amazing routes
The cycle tour of the Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava by Continental cycling festival, the Ciclobrava, is a gentle ride in which participants can enjoy each and every kilometre of the incredible landscapes, roads and villages through which it runs. Inland, medium-height mountains, accessible mountain passes, sea and much more, the Ciclobrava is a cycle tour to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, alone, as a couple, with friends or with your cycling group.
The event will start on Sunday 26 at 7.45 a.m. right next to the festival site.
3 routes, 3 options
As has usually been the case in past editions, all participants will start together and each one will choose a route according to their fitness and preferences: 70 km, 100 km or 140 km.
The 70 km option starts at KM 26 with a climb up to the small Santa Pellaia mountain pass. After the descent the route will encounter a small slope in Madremanya, before coming to Bordils, where the first feed station is situated.
We already know that a large number of professional and ex-professional cyclists and even cycling teams are based in the area throughout the year, for many reasons such as the region’s aforementioned mild climate almost all year round, ease of access and good transport links with the rest of Europe, the gastronomy, which always helps, complementary services for cyclists and the fact that local institutions have been involved for a long time in promoting the sector, which is growing at a fast pace and is so closely linked to tourism.
The wonders that the region holds are plentiful and cyclists who decide to participate will be delighted with a great variety of landscapes on a medium-height mountain route, ascending and descending small climbs along fun, narrow, twisting roads, safe in the knowledge that motor vehicles are almost non-existent. Cyclists will climb small, beautiful mountain passes such as Alt de Sant Grau, on its most accessible slope from the town of Llagostera, and at its highest point they can enjoy the satisfaction of having overcome it, contemplating the sea and its spectacular rugged coastline with spectacular views.
The Ciclobrava routes are designed every year so that they are never the same, so that participants can always discover a new corner of the Girona region, a new road, mountain pass or valley that they were not familiar with before. Local cyclists who assist in the route’s design are experts on every corner of Girona, which means they can be trusted to always find a new and spectacular route to leave us in awe.
